Jacobs Hall is the brand new home for UC Berkeley’s Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation in the College of Engineering. The building was built to embody the values of the institute itself: “a place to explore, a place to connect and a place to learn design innovation by doing design innovation.” Now, it has a Sungevity solar system, too.

Dear Campus Community,
In the context of recent, and perhaps continuing, off-campus protests, one of our primary concerns is the campus community’s safety. In this message, we want to provide you with updated information and guidance in the event the unrest persists.
Since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Andrew Rossi’s documentary, The Ivory Tower, has fueled a debate about the rising cost and value of higher education.
The film focuses on examples that highlight the increasing costs of higher education and asks how this is compatible with the goal of providing access to as many students as possible - a good question. But the film stops short of tackling the more difficult next step - how do we create a financially sustainable framework that enables us to achieve this aspirational goal?

UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Launches Convenient Mobile Payment Option
Berkeley, CA – As part of UC Berkeley’s continued efforts to improve customer service to parking patrons, UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation today launched a mobile parking payment option, PayByPhone. The service is available for UC Berkeley’s 5,500 parking spaces and offers more convenient payment options for hourly parking on campus.

A new documentary, “The Ivory Tower,” hit theaters recently and is fueling debate about the rising cost and value of higher education.
Vice Chancellor John Wilton made the following announcement in a message to the VCAF community:

The University of California-Berkeley's dramatic, sustained decrease in its subsidization of its athletics program during a recent three-year period may well be replicable by other NCAA Division I schools.
But none has done it.
