Administration: Business Process Management Office

The Business Process Management Office (BPMO) is part of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and is led by Mike Cook, Director of Business Process Management. The BPM Office partners with departments across the university to improve how work gets done—bringing clarity, efficiency, and sustainability to everyday processes that support UC Berkeley’s academic mission.

The BPM Office helps campus teams streamline operations, reduce complexity, and improve user experience by applying proven methods of process analysis, redesign, and implementation support. Whether launching a campus-wide initiative or refining a unit-level workflow, the BPMO team supports change that leads to better outcomes for students, faculty, and staff.

BPMO's Services

The Business Process Management Office offers a wide range of services tailored to the needs of campus departments and programs, including:

  • Process discovery and mapping

  • Process redesign and optimization

  • Process documentation and training

  • Project implementation support

  • Consulting on process improvement strategies

BPMO consultants collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand current practices, identify pain points, and co-create future-state processes that are more efficient, effective, and aligned with campus goals.

A Campus Partner for Operational Excellence

In addition to direct service engagements, BPMO works to build a culture of continuous improvement by developing tools, templates, and resources that empower staff to rethink and enhance the way they work. The office also partners with other units in the Administration Division, as well as with Organizational Effectiveness, IT teams, and other campus offices to support broad, cross-functional improvements.
