As the spring semester came to a close, UC Berkeley achieved, UC Berkeley has achieved a historic sustainability milestone: earning a Platinum rating in the latest version of the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS 3.0)—becoming the first university in the world to do so.
Administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), STARS is the most widely recognized framework for publicly reporting comprehensive sustainability performance across colleges and universities. Institutions are rated based on their performance in academics, operations, planning, administration, and engagement. Platinum is the highest rating possible, signifying exceptional leadership and innovation in campus sustainability.
"This achievement reflects the commitment, collaboration, and deep expertise across our entire campus," said Marina Zdobnova, who led UC Berkeley’s reporting efforts. “It’s not just a recognition of what we’ve accomplished—it’s a launchpad for what we’ll do next.”
Berkeley’s full STARS report is publicly available on the Sustainability & Carbon Solutions website.
