As Associate Vice Chancellor for Berkeley IT and Chief Information Officer, Tracy Shinn leads the university’s central IT organization and oversees enterprise infrastructure, information security, academic and research computing, enterprise applications, and digital accessibility. Berkeley IT is also responsible for key administrative systems, business process improvement, and technical support for faculty, students, and staff. In this role, Tracy is responsible for ensuring that UC Berkeley’s digital infrastructure remains modern, reliable, secure, and aligned with institutional goals.

Tracy joined Berkeley in 2023 with more than 25 years of experience in higher education information technology. She previously served as Vice President for Information Services and Technology at Boston University, where she led large-scale IT modernization efforts, enterprise resource planning (ERP) system transitions, and cloud migrations. She also held leadership roles at the University of San Francisco and was a founding member of the Northeast Research and Education Network (NEREN), a regional high-speed research network. Her expertise spans enterprise architecture, governance frameworks, IT service management, and data stewardship. She is a frequent contributor to national conversations about the role of technology in higher education and has served on several advisory boards and professional consortiums.
