Ella Callow has served as UC Berkeley’s ADA/Section 504 Compliance Officer since 2018. In this role, she leads the university’s efforts to ensure full compliance with federal and state disability laws, as well as UC policies and procedures that protect the rights of people with disabilities. Her work is central to advancing Berkeley’s commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusion across all areas of campus life.
Ella brings more than a decade of experience in disability law, policy, and compliance. Before joining Berkeley, she was the Disability Services Specialist for the City of Berkeley, where she developed disability-related policies and practices, conducted system-wide training, and successfully guided the city through a state compliance audit. She also served as Legal Director for the National Center for Parents with Disabilities & Their Families at Through the Looking Glass and as a litigation consultant with the Disability Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.
At UC Berkeley, Ella works closely with students, faculty, and staff to remove barriers and improve accessibility across campus facilities, programs, and services. She partners with colleagues across the university to embed accessibility into decision-making and planning, ensuring Berkeley continues to meet and exceed its obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
