Kyle Gibson

Job title:
Director of Strategic Communications
Department:
Administration Division
Research interests:

Kyle Gibson serves as Director of Communications for UC Berkeley’s Administration Division, where he oversees strategic communications, public affairs, and storytelling in support of the Vice Chancellor for Administration. In this capacity, he manages communications for the Vice Chancellor’s immediate office and plays a central role in articulating the Administration Division’s mission and priorities to the campus and broader community.

Kyle also provides leadership and guidance to the division’s ten departments, many of which maintain their own communications directors and managers. His role is to unify these efforts—developing shared strategies, strengthening consistency of message, and elevating the visibility of the Administration Division’s contributions to Berkeley’s academic mission. Through collaboration, he ensures that the division’s communications reflect both the distinct identities of individual departments and the collective impact of the organization as a whole.

Kyle brings more than 20 years of experience in communications, public affairs, and university operations within the University of California system. Since 2018, he has served as Director of Communications for UC Berkeley Capital Strategies, where he has led communications and public engagement for campus planning, construction, and real estate initiatives. His work has supported complex, high-impact projects such as the Long Range Development Plan, seismic safety upgrades, and major student housing developments, requiring close collaboration with senior leaders, faculty, students, and community stakeholders.

Prior to joining Berkeley, Kyle spent over 15 years at UCLA in a range of communications and external affairs roles, leading initiatives that advanced campus development and alumni relations, public engagement, and institutional priorities. Throughout his career, he has developed and executed high-profile communications strategies and events, advised senior leaders on media and messaging, and built campaigns that strengthen the university’s relationships with internal and external audiences.
