2022 VCA Annual Report - SHARE Region

The SHARE Region serves the Division of Social Sciences, the Division of Arts & Humanities, the Undergraduate Division, related research units; and now also supports the College of Chemistry; and Space Sciences Laboratory.

The SHARE Region is under the direction of Max Auffhammer, Professor of International Area Studies and Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Regional Associate Dean, SHARE Region; and the operational leadership of Teal Sexton, Regional Director.

FY21

The SHARE Region capitalized on their previous successes to regionalize onboarding for new Berkeley employees and expanded that service to include all titles served in SHARE and the former ChaMPS Region. This became fully operational in September, 2021.

SHARE Regional Director, Teal Sexton, led the project to launch the new HR Service Hub to replace the (former) HR ServiceNow system. In partnership with Berkeley IT teams, other BRS regions, and campus support groups, this project, almost two (2) years in duration, was successfully launched in October, 2021. The HR Service Hub is now in operational mode, and led by a newly formed Governance Team. Concurrent with the launch of the HR Service Hub, SHARE HR also led the efforts to develop and implement new (DocuSign) powerforms and related processes for Affiliates and Volunteer hires. These forms have been adopted across other BRS regions as well.

With the realignment of the ChaMPS Region, SHARE began the expansion of service delivery to include the College of Chemistry, the Space Sciences Lab and other related ORU’s. This work began in November, 2021, and the transition period concluded in the first quarter of 2022. The service delivery expansion of the new groups also included welcoming the staff who supported them into the SHARE family, adding roughly 50% more staff members from the former ChaMPS region, bringing SHARE to a total of nearly eighty FTE.

FY22

SHARE created a Return to Work committee that planned and executed a move to the third floor space at the Fourth Street building, for the staff who desire a post-pandemic hybrid work arrangement. They welcomed these staff back March 1, 2022, and will continue to fine tune the space for those who wish to drop in voluntarily and need hoteling space. The majority of SHARE employees will work remotely indefinitely; this flexibility aligns with our goal to give staff a great work/life balance, keep retention high and focus on career progression within SHARE. We have adopted many productivity tools to support online team engagement, accountability and management.

In February 2022, SHARE Research Administration leadership launched a new SHARE RA Award Management Dashboard through consolidated Smartsheets, within their well developed SHARE Research Administration Workspace. In this Smartsheet workspace, RA’s can access many great tools that help track and manage their funds. It includes RA-to-PI Assignments, upcoming closeouts, projections of grant-related deficits, payroll in suspense, financial journal submission forms, and more. SHARE RA Leaders also have access to a large variety of management metrics.
