Thanksgiving/Winter Curtailment Reduced Services

October 21, 2022

The following CALMessage was sent to faculty and staff on October 20, 2022 which outlined details to help campus departments plan for Vice Chancellor, Administration and Vice Chancellor of Finance departments service impacts during the Thanksgiving and Winter Curtailment periods.

Dear Campus Colleagues,

With the November/December/January holiday season rapidly approaching, we are writing today to share an outline of service impacts that the UC Berkeley campus may experience related to some of our divisions operating on a modified schedule and/or closed during certain periods. Consistent with previous years, we want to allow staff the opportunity to take accrued vacation time, rest and rejuvenate, and to ramp up for 2023.

Divisions will strive to minimize impacts though processing timeframes may be longer than normal due to increased vacation time.

Thanksgiving week - campus holidays: Thursday 11/24 - Friday 11/25

Administrative departments will be operating as normal the days leading up to the campus holidays (11/21-23) unless specifically noted below.

People & Culture (P&C) - Will be unavailable to the campus during the three days prior to the holidays and not able to participate in meetings or respond to emails until after the Thanksgiving break. Urgent needs that arise during those three days should be directed to Eugene Whitlock at AVC-HR@berkeley.edu and he will provide assistance.

Berkeley IT - Many IT facilities and services will be closed or operating on modified schedules during the week of Thanksgiving from Monday, 11/21 through Friday, 11/25. Most offices will be closed and services will not be available unless otherwise noted here

Winter curtailment and holidays - Friday 12/23 - Monday 1/2/23

Due to the annual closure of the campus during this period, processing timeframes for the services that Berkeley Regional Services (BRS), the Controller’s Office, P&C, Supply Chain Management, and Berkeley IT provides to the campus will be impacted. Many teams will be operating on a modified schedule.

For specific details about this year’s timeframes, deadlines, and impacts, please see these website/news articles:

Note: Similar to Thanksgiving week, both Berkeley IT and P&C will be participating in an optional curtailment period from 1/3/23 to 1/6/23 and will not be available to participate in meetings or respond to emails until after 1/6/23.
