Courtney Chandler serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Administration Division and Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor Marc Fisher. In this role, she manages strategy, operations, and special initiatives on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, and provides executive oversight for policy alignment and cross-functional coordination across the division’s ten departments. She also leads high-priority projects that support campus operations and ensures the effective management of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration.
Courtney joined the Administration Division in October 2024 after more than seven years at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where she most recently served as Senior Vice Dean and Chief Strategy and Operating Officer. In that role, she oversaw six administrative and academic service offices—including human resources, IT, facilities, digital learning, marketing, corporate partnerships, and MBA career management—while directing the school’s strategic priorities in areas such as reputational strength, principled business education, and student experience. Her leadership contributed significantly to Haas’s academic excellence, operational resilience, and long-term financial health.
With more than 14 years of higher education leadership experience, Courtney has held roles of increasing responsibility at Berkeley and has actively contributed to major campuswide initiatives. She has served on committees addressing finance reform, COVID-19 recovery operations, and IT governance, and was recently appointed Special Advisor to the Provost on Academic Labor Relations Coordination to guide governance structures and operational responses related to UAW academic labor contracts. Her contributions have been recognized with the UC Berkeley Excellence in Management Award in both 2016 and 2021.
Courtney is a UC Berkeley alumna and brings deep academic and administrative expertise to her work in the Administration Division, including advanced training in higher education management and organizational culture.
