Watch: Vice Chancellor Wilton's Opening Remarks
Campus Leaders Share Perspectives with Staff at VCAF Town Hall
By Shelby Carpenter
“Whether you spend your days in spreadsheets or sheetrock, we’re all Berkeley,” said Kim LaPean, Communications Manager for University Health Services, at the opening of the first VCAF Town Hall on Monday, May 11. This theme of togetherness was echoed throughout the event as campus leaders shared their perspectives about current challenges and future directions for the university.
Nearly 400 staff attended the event at Zellerbach Playhouse and hundreds of staff tuned in to watch the event online via livestream.
Vice Chancellor John Wilton led off the event with an overview of Berkeley’s financial status, challenges and future goals. In 2008 Berkeley received $506 million in state funding, said Wilton, but by 2014 that number dropped to $319 million, leading to a need for innovative ways to fund the university’s priorities.
